Cleaning – Or “What I did on my Vacation”

I was catching up on my blog reading and saw that Libby was doing almost the same thing I was – cleaning out the studio. Of course, her beginning photos are what my goal is :)

Libby’s got some really good points – clutter seems to be almost inevitable for creative people but at some point it starts to inhibit you. You realize that it’s way too much effort to try to make anything because you’d have to clear a path to your worktable, shove aside the stuff, and then you won’t be able to find anything you need anyway…

So this weekend I spent most of a day and cleaned up half of my studio. My kaleidoscope table is now clear, the drawers are organized and even labelled and we bought some more lights for that end of the room. And the amazing thing? I haven’t had the time, energy or inspiration to make a scope in almost a year. But all of a sudden my head is buzzing with ideas and I can’t wait to try some of them.

Now I just have to tackle the other half!

insight This was one of the pieces I created as show entries recently. I had alot of fun with the idea and have a few other variations in mind that I may try at some point. I used some of the forming techniques I learned in Dan Cormier’s workshop for the outer rows of leaves. The innner leaves were baked on a decorative lightbulb.

insight side The center eye is acrylic and was glued in place after baking. I think I may turn this into a wall piece since it looks best when you look into it and I don’t have any low tables that I want to display it on.
