Wearable Wildlife, Sculpture, and Wall Pieces by Christy Ann Sherman
As a kid my bedroom walls were literally papered with photos of animals and landscapes ripped from National Geographic. When I started working with polymer twelve years ago I started recreating the creatures I love. (Including a few--dragons and mermaids and sea serpents--who live only in my imagination.)
I want to connect with the animal I'm sculpting. I try to capture their spirit--the placid innocence of a manatee, the grace of a fox, the searching gaze of an owl.
I tend to work small--the smallest bas-reliefs I've done are about an inch square. At that size, it doesn't make much of an impact when hung on a wall, but it's the perfect size to hang around your neck or pin to your lapel.
Art to wear.
Creatures that I can carry with me, like worry stones, but with life and expression.
